'Accelerate Action': HSS Akingam's Call to Advance Women's Rights and Opportunities
Akingam, March 8: Govt. Higher Secondary School Akingam marked International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm, celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in various spheres of life. The event was introduced by the anchor, Mr. Sajad Ahmad Wani, who highlighted the significance of the day and the pivotal roles played by women in society. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a soulful rendition of Naati Nabi (SAW), setting a spiritual and reflective tone for the program.
The celebration featured thought-provoking speeches by students and faculty members, each emphasizing different aspects of women's empowerment.
Nafia Bashir, a student of Class 10th, spoke about the numerous roles women play in society and the struggles they face in these roles. She posed a critical question on gender bias, asking why daughters are often not encouraged to speak as openly as sons.
Hadiya Mushtaq, also from Class 10th, underscored the importance of supporting women, emphasizing that they deserve recognition and respect in every field.
Mr. Mohd Abass Rather, Senior Lecturer, presented the religious perspective on women’s status, quoting from the Quran, particularly from Surah An-Nisa. He elaborated on how Islam honors women, stating that a daughter, if raised properly, becomes a gateway to paradise, and that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized that “Paradise lies under the feet of the mother.”
Hurraina Bilal, a Class 10th student, shed light on the sacrifices women make and their crucial roles in social and national progress.
Junaid Ahmad Lone, another Class 10th student, challenged societal stereotypes and called for equal opportunities for women to foster a just and progressive society.
Senior Lecturer Mr. Mohammad Ayoub provided a historical perspective on International Women’s Day, outlining its objectives such as empowerment, recognition, and equality. He also highlighted the role of the school in fostering an atmosphere of respect and value for women employees.
Imran Iqbal of Class 9th emphasized that women are the foundation of society and play an instrumental role as changemakers.
Miss Ruqiya Anwar, Lecturer, reflected on the progress of women over time and urged every woman to believe in herself. She stressed that no barrier can stop a determined woman from reaching great heights. She also shared inspiring stories of successful women across various fields and concluded with a motivational quote by Serena Williams: "Be strong, be fearless, be beautiful. And believe that anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you."
The event concluded with an inspiring address by the Principal, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Shah. He reminded the students that this day is an occasion to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women. He encouraged girl students to be mentally strong and confident, urging them to aim high and qualify for prestigious exams like IAS and KAS. He congratulated all women employees and girl students on the occasion and extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the event a success.
The celebration served as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and the need to continue supporting and empowering women in all walks of life.
